Shield

The Lion Shield

The story behind the lion shield is indeed an interesting one. Most weeks the pastor would get me a synopsis of the message for the live performance drawing by Thursday, but on particularly busy and challenging weeks for him it would come much later. On one particular week, I hadn’t heard a thing when I went to bed on Saturday. That night I had a dream that a shield with a lion on it was floating over my bed, and lightning was emanating from it. The next morning the message synopsis was in my e-Mail, but it was very vague. So I looked up the verse references for more insight, one of which was Psalm 18:30.

As for God, his way is perfect: The Lord’s word is flawless;
he shields all who take refuge in him.

So I went with the dream imagery having no other inspiration. As it turns out, the pastor forgot to even mention the Psalm passage. But, he did bring up The Chronicle of Narnia, which wasn’t mentioned in the synopsis. I told all this to the pastor afterwords and his reply was “God must have knew I would forget that part.” As you can see I have continued to use the imagery.
